大稻埕，是唸做Dadaocheng嗎？那聽來完全不像這個地方吧。城內又是哪？虛擬的路標，映照出語言與命名的荒誕現實。

台灣ê地名用台語讀，按呢ê路標煞若像足超現實，形體mā毋是台灣式ê。若是伊實際存在，正爿去大稻埕，倒爿去城內，這支路牌可能是tshāi佇佗位咧？

This is a set of road signs that don’t exist. The place names are spelled in Romanized Taiwanese rather than Chinese Pinyin. Siânn-lāi means Inner City, or the small area that used to be within the Walls of Taipei that existed between late 19th century and early 20th century. That name was used by people even decades after the walls were demolished but is now rarely heard.

この道路標識は、実際に存在していません。ローマ字は、１９４５年以降政府が推進してきた中国語の読みではなく、台湾語のものです。城内とは、約百年前まであった台北の城壁に囲まれた狭い地域の呼称でしたが、今でも使う人がいます。大稲埕とは、城内の北にある歴史的な町です。架空の標識で中国語が支配する言語の状況にチャレンジしたいです。
